Post lunchtime viewing. The webcast of the Re-thinking Sydney conference. UWS Chancellor Peter Shergold speaking now.
Urban, city futures, etc. Looking closely at the role of Parramatta.
Am hoping. The Peter Shergold was good, but I think the morning sessions were better than what followed him and I missed them. Some good thoughts it seems on how to develop and grow sustainably.
Unfortunately it was an invite only event and they were proud to say the attendees were "elite". Not really the best way to plan for a future involving the whole community.
I'm particularly interested in service design and the city – which has lead me to follow Adam Greenfield for a while – and also now Jake Barton (thanks for the tip on that by the way).
It feels like work at the intersection of service design, digital infrastructure and the city is about to take off (even in Australia). So I wonder why there was no-one from Cisco, Siemens or IBM on the session 3 panel on smart cities. Deloitte (as far as I can tell) haven't really been a big part of that discussion – they just don't claim the space or have a lot to say. Even Frog goes further.
Crazy none of the larger tech companies were involved.
Should we have a Service Design and the City coffee morning?
We absolutely should!
I'll start a thread in the Forum :)
