Hello Catherine, and a very warm welcome to Service Design Sydney.
This site is something a few of us (Zafer, Justin, Katrina, Linda, Joe, Fiona, Katja) talked about first at UX SD 12 and also at the #NewtownCM last week – a social site created by the service designers of Sydney for the service designers of Sydney.
What can I say? Lego is my M.O. I find it particularly useful in getting uptight bastar... erm I mean stakeholders to actually get creative. i.e. Play
Loved your talk at Service Design Conf - it's about time we brought back the creativity into our thinking. It seems the field has become somewhat clinical to a degree...
It's a hard task selling design thinking into an org - but it's a challenge I constantly embrace. People like you feed my hunger to succeed at this.
So - without a rant (apparently I am now able to rant on email - who knew?), just a big thank you for being a brave poet. I'm a writer and violinist by passion, service designer by trade. I love that you got up there and expressed yourself. Your poem was beautiful. But took balls.
It really brought it all back to life for me. What about the way people FEEL? There is nothing more compelling, or powerful about humans than our emotions. Because even if something works well, did you really enjoy the experience?
OMG I said I wouldn't rant. Shutting face now.
And my avatar is my actual face - literal plastic surgery. I know right? Geni-arse
Love you long time

Of course there's already a lot going on in Sydney – but we felt an online social context was also possible – and the SD ning site in Melbourne was an inspiration too.
Here you can:
This being a social site the more we all do here the more interesting it becomes for everyone.
While there's no editor deciding what gets published there may be just a bit of post facto moderation to keep it clean and on-topic.
I hope you enjoy your time on the site and find it useful.
Best wishes,
Adrian Wiggins
That's an extra-awesome avatar by the way.
