Yoko Akama has not received any gifts yet
I am one of the facilitators of the Service Design Network in Melbourne.
I am an academic at RMIT University (in Melbourne), and teach design research and do design research through designing. I also lead the DESIS (Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability) lab in Melbourne as well, which is where my real passion lies.
My main interest / research is human-centred design and I see design as a 'scaffold' to facilitate communication, engagement and co-creation with people that leads to transformative change.

Here's a shout out for Steve Portigal's workshop on interview techniques and user research at UX 12 Australia! It sounds like it'll be a really interesting and worthwhile learning experience for those in service design too.

Hello Yoko, and a very warm (if slightly belated) welcome to Service Design Sydney.
This site is something a few of us (Zafer, Justin, Katrina, Linda, Joe, Fiona, Katja) talked about first at UX SD 12 and also at the #NewtownCM last week – a social site created by the service designers of Sydney for the service designers of Sydney.
Of course there's already a lot going on in Sydney – but we felt an online social context was also possible – and the SD ning site in Melbourne was an inspiration too.
Here you can:
This being a social site the more we all do here the more interesting it becomes for everyone.
While there's no editor deciding what gets published there may be just a bit of post facto moderation to keep it clean and on-topic.
I hope you enjoy your time on the site and find it useful.
Best wishes,
Adrian Wiggins
