Event Description

VIa Meetup

Sustainability. It seems to be the sexy word of the moment. But what does it actually mean?

At August's Think Act Change we're going to be hearing from four very different folks about what sustainability means to them, what they think it should mean to you & what it means for the world at large.

You'll also get your opportunity to have your say as the evening will involve flash talks followed by a panel & audience discussion.

SPEAKERS ON THE NIGHT WILL INCLUDE:

CLOVER MOORE | Lord Mayor of Sydney

As Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover aims to work in the community’s interests, for the needs of Sydney and for the future.

Clover works for a better environment and living amenities, and to defend our parks and foreshores. She promotes progressive solutions to inner city problems and is passionate about making Sydney an even better place to live and work, and to transform it into a leading sustainable city globally.

ANNA ROSE | Australian Youth Climate Coalition

Anna Rose is co-founder and Chair of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, a movement of over 80,000 young people working to solve climate change before it’s too late. She is the former Environment Minister's joint Young Environmentalist of the Year and a Fellow of the International Youth Foundation. Anna’s climate change work started with shoveling compost and emptying recycling bins in high school. She went on to work with the National Union of Students on dozens of campus clean energy victories, speak onstage with the Dalai Lama to a 16,000-person sports stadium in Perth, trudge through snow door-knocking in the United States and spearhead Australia’s first climate torch relay in her former role as GetUp’s climate campaigner. In 2011 Anna received a Churchill fellowship to research youth peer-to-peer climate education. The Sydney Morning Herald named her one of Sydney’s most influential people (in 2009) and one of the top five most powerful grassroots organisers in NSW (in 2011). She has just released her first book, Madlands: A Journey to Change the Mind of a Climate Sceptic.

Other speakers will be announced shortly. Venue is also to be confirmed but we'll meet at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.

Don't forget about our 60 second shoutouts. If you have an idea or project you want to share, this is your chance to take control of the room for 60 seconds!
